Your Councillors’ Vision

Community services enhanced for all age groups including affordable child care, parent support groups, youth, ageing in place and people with a disability.

Cultural facilities developed including the enlargement of the Library and the Art Gallery, and provision of a local performing arts theatre.

Community connectedness for all age groups encouraged by:

  • enhancing volunteering opportunities
  • facilitating intergenerational activities
  • providing social outlets such as Men’s Sheds and community gardens
  • involvement and enjoyment of Festival activities
  • neighbourhood activities such as street parties
  • people friendly community spaces

Innovative and accessible consultation methods continuing to be provided for residents to engage with the Council and become involved in community life.

Active recreational pursuits encouraged, especially for young people through provision of sports facilities and support of local sporting groups.

Health and wellbeing of residents improved through developing programs and linkages that promote healthy lifestyle, and working with other levels of government and medical practitioners to ensure the provision of local health services including mental health services.

Cultural and spiritual diversity, celebrated.

A 40 year projection in my opinion is quite silly, as economic and social conditions can change much more rapidly. You have spent time and effort on creating a vision that is far from visionary – it’s just more of the same. What do you mean by ‘enlarged’ art gallery and library? Will there be more books and pictures or do you mean to respond to a changing physical environment with more meeting places and better facilities for social interaction?

I remember performing many times as a child in the great Mosman Town Hall, where the current Council Chambers are now standing. It was an amazing large space where the residents of Mosman could gather for all sorts of occasions and events. Some form of community theatre or performance space would be nothing but an asset to the area and go in some way towards replacing the loss of the Town Hall.

Council policy documents ,forms and application can be made in the language of braile . This may not be the Vision 2050. This is not new to local governance some places in UK already have this practice. This means that this can be done with immediate effect (say within an year from now).

The Mosman Art Gallery is a very valuable cultural and educational asset to our community. As well as an interesting and important calendar of exhibitions, it is responsible for many other activities. It is a popular venue for all ages and regularly runs workshops (always overbooked) for children in relation to the current exhibitions. Tours and events are also popular activities with the gallery as they have a very dedicated and hard working staff offering many opportunities and experiences to our community. To consider enlarging this venue would be a great advantage and benefit to the community.

The mens shed also seems a great iniative for the growing number of older males retiring in our community.

I support the establishment of community gardens in Mosman. There are already several in existence or in planning in neighbouring LGA’s Manly and North Sydney, and a large number of Mosman residents have expressed their interest in one (or more) for Mosman. Community gardening has many rewards for participants of all ages including community building, improved health and fresh food.
